In Practice: Know how - Co-location

2 mins read
Bringing different professionals together in one place is one way of getting them to work more closely together to offer the best support to children and families.

However, a report from the National Evaluation of Sure Start concluded co-location was not "a magic solution". You must first decide if it will work for your setting and the families that use it. If you do decide to, there are practical steps you can take to make it a success.

Children's centres and extended schools should be part of a wider partnership of providers. Staff may work out of more than one setting so take the time to develop the right sort of policies and procedures so they feel safe and comfortable in their work. You should be able to say where everyone is, whether that's on the site or out in the community.
