In Practice: Cash in hand: The Classical Association

The Classical Association was set up more than 100 years ago to promote the development of classical studies - the languages, literature and civilisation of ancient Greece and Rome.

Each year it awards grants totalling about £50,000 to classical projects such as out-of-school classes in Greek, Latin and classical civilisation, and summer schools. Other activities eligible for funding include regional Greek and Roman days, school conferences and reading competitions organised through the association. Schools' projects were among those granted funds in 2008. Decisions on applications are usually made in April and mid-November each year. The next deadline for applications is 23 October.
