In Practice: Cash in hand - New Approaches to Learning

New Approaches to Learning is a 1.5m-a-year fund run by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation to support innovative projects in early years settings and schools.

The foundation is looking to fund nationally significant work unlikely to qualify for statutory funding because it is new, risky, unorthodox or overlooked. Priority areas include early intervention to boost the language, literacy, numeracy and social skills of disadvantaged children and projects that strengthen the work of schools in the community. Large grants range from £15,000 to £250,000. Smaller grants of £5,000 to £15,000 are available to test the case for bigger projects. There is a two-stage application process with final decisions made in June and October this year.
