What is Learning Outside the Classroom and how does it benefit children and young people?

The Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto is a partnership of more than 800 organisations - including the Department for Children, Schools and Families, parenting organisations, schools and councils - who have pledged support to offer young people high quality, innovative real-world experiences that take place outside the classroom. The manifesto states that "every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of personal development, whatever their age, ability or circumstances". Quality learning experiences in 'real' situations have the capacity to raise achievement across a range of subjects and develop better personal and social skills.
