Give ownership and encourage participants to join in with activity design and delivery.
Offer a menu of activities - this will allow young people to pick and choose the activities that interest them most. Some projects have chosen a "carousel" approach, offering different activities each term to help maintain interest and motivation.
Provide a comfortable environment, ensuring that all young people can access activities, and feel safe and relaxed when taking part. This will encourage them to return for more.
To raise the profile of the club in a general way, you can use notice boards, flyers, local papers or radio stations. To reach the target group you could work through other organisations or individuals who already have contact with them. Some clubs have sent marketing materials to their target group in advance, while others have encouraged everyone interested to sign up for the activity and then prioritised the allocation of places to people in their target groups. Personal invitations to young people have also proved to be successful. Also think about marketing the activity to parents and carers.
