What is the tool? It is a web-based program called Ceeda, designed by the research company Research Solutions UK (RSUK) in response to the new self-evaluation challenges required by the Early Years Foundation Stage.
How does it work? RSUK created a questionnaire in consultation with the childcare sector. This is handed out to parents who fill it in and give it back to the nursery or send it to RSUK. Managers who subscribe to Ceeda can then access password-protected parent feedback online, along with a benchmark report, which shows how the nursery compares with others.
What were the results? Ofsted rated the nursery as "good" in its most recent inspection and was particularly impressed that it had sought the views of parents through an independent agency. The feedback has led to a number of changes: a healthier menu, better communication with parents through daily diaries, and a possible direct debit system for fee payments.
