Young Addaction Liverpool

1 min read Early Years
What is happening? Young Addaction Liverpool is a charity based in the city that helps young people who have had problems with drugs and alcohol. It has been piloting a 12-month project since February, funded by Liverpool City Council, to provide support and advice to parents of under-fives in a bid to stop generational drug abuse.

Where is it happening? In children's centres across Liverpool.

How does it work? Young parents with drug issues are often reluctant to talk to support workers for fear of having their children taken away. Young Addaction provides sessions in the familiar environment of the centre, removing any stigma attached to drug use. Parents bring their children along for toddler sessions and talk to a support worker about their own issues at the same time. Young Addaction is also providing outreach in the city in an effort to get in touch with parents who are afraid to use the centre because of how their habits may be perceived. And the charity works with other agencies to raise awareness of these issues.
