What does Addaction do?
Addaction is the UK's largest specialist drug and alcohol treatment charity. It provides frontline treatment to people affected by drug and alcohol misuse and offers support and advice to their families. It has 70 services across Scotland and England and nine Young Addaction services for young people.
- Is there a range of roles?
Addaction employs staff in roles from fundraising to IT support. Frontline roles working with young people include drug and alcohol workers, outreach workers and custody suite workers.
- What skills do you need?
Workers do not necessarily require experience of substance abuse, but an empathy with the issues, and those affected by them, is essential. For frontline roles, Addaction looks for an OCN/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent. However, if people have skills they can bring from the social care field, it will provide specific training in the form of a core competency framework, which is accredited by the Federation of Drug & Alcohol Professionals.
