Performance The percentage of looked-after children, aged under 16, who had been in the same placement for at least two years

South Tyneside's fostering service "adapts to the needs of the children and the foster carers, and is always looking for new ways to improve," according to a foster carer cited in a recent Ofsted report.

One of the areas in which the authority has improved is placement stability for looked-after children.

In a report published last month, Ofsted inspectors rated the overall quality of the council's fostering service as "good". Inspectors said: "The service works to ensure the systems used to match children with carers are as effective as possible.
