The guidelines have been developed in response to a report launched on 15 December by the charity that says young runaways in London are being failed by gaps in services and a shortage of safe emergency accommodation.
Giving Young People a Chance focuses on the east London boroughs, and highlights service gaps and insufficient late-night opening. None of the 10 boroughs had adequate safe emergency accommodation.
Nicola Bacon, director of Safe in the City, said: "Service delivery must change to respond to these vulnerable young people. Our protocol unites different agencies to work together to meet young people's needs. This includes talking to a young person after they have run away so that they can start to deal with their problems."
