Children's Services: Government given service protocol

interact with children's services has been produced by the Association of Directors of Education and Children's Services.

The protocol is due to be agreed by association members today (Wednesday) before being sent to the Department for Education and Skills and children's services' regional representatives for comment.

Association members hope to finalise the protocol at a meeting with the department on 1 November, and aim to implement it immediately afterwards.

The association has been drafting the document amid increasing irritation among children's services directors, who feel harassed by government field workers monitoring progress-driven programmes such as Healthy Schools (YPN, 26 July-1 August, p3). Association members argue that their first accountability is to elected councillors.
