A Staffordshire school has become the first in the UK to get an innovative Finnish-designed hi-tech playground.
The new play area at Little Aston Primary School in Lichfield aims to motivate children to exercise and learn through information technology.
As well as equipment such as monkey bars, launch pads and balancing platforms, the site includes a range of pre-loaded games designed to encourage children to collect points by completing tasks.
The children use swipe cards to register collected points and a screen then tells them what they need to do next. There is also software available to allow the children to design their own games.
Councillor Peter Beresford, Staffordshire County Council's cabinet member for children and young people, described the playground as "innovative and exciting".
"It supports learning and motor development through play, as well as allowing the opportunity for social interaction."
Head teacher Elizabeth Pearce said: "We are delighted that we could provide this opportunity for our children to improve their physical fitness, interact socially and learn in such a fun and creative way."
The playground is based around SmartUs technology designed by Finnish company Lappset.
