Residents raise money for children's playground

An environmentally-friendly playground has opened in Newnham-on-Severn, Gloucestershire after local residents raised 12,500 pounds in just nine months.

The playground features equipment from Monster Play System’s BigToys and is made from recycled materials.

Grants for the playground were also received from local authorities and the Co-operative Society.

The playground has been made to appeal to younger children, after residents felt play equipment in the village was suitable for older children but not for those of pre-school age.

Helen Baker, secretary of the village’s fundraising committee, said: "The children just love the new play equipment and although it's only been open a few weeks, it’s become so popular it even attracts children from outside the area."
