HELP FROM: The Young Carers Initiative

The Young Carers Initiative was created by The Children's Society to address the needs of children and young people who care for a disabled or chronically ill parent or sibling. The role often isolates these children from their peers and affects their social lives and participation at school. The initiative works directly with young carers, operates a web site, produces practice guides and provides training and lobbying to government, with the aim of improving educational, health and care services.
A practice guide is available for people who work with young carers and their families. Making it work: Good practice with young carers and their families costs £14.95 from The Children's Society, which can be contacted at 020 7841 4415..
