Help from ... Nacro

Much of the independent charity's work to reduce crime involves young people, who, overall, commit two-fifths of crimes such as theft, burglary, robbery and violence.

It provides football, arts and other outdoor activities for young people from disadvantaged areas. It also runs projects supporting children excluded from school.

As well as working to prevent children turning to crime, the charity runs community-based projects for young offenders that tackle the causes of their behaviour.

Nacro's publications include guidance on reducing offending by looked-after children, and advice leaflets .

It also organises training programmes and conferences, and carries out research, monitoring and evaluation of projects.
