HELP FROM ... HeadsUp Forum

Citizenship teaching is still in its early days but the HeadsUp Forum is a way for secondary school teachers to gather more information on political issues and get their pupils involved.

The forum, which is funded by the DfES, House of Commons Library, Electoral Commission and Carnegie Young People Initiative but operates at arms length from them, began its latest online debate on Monday (26 January). It tackles the issue of immigration and asylum seekers and lasts for two weeks. Teachers can register through the forum's web site (see below).

Its next debate, from 8-19 March, will address the role of the media as an intermediary between politicians and young people.

The web site also features teachers' notes and ideas for classroom activities to make the subjects easier to teach and understand.
