As the national federation of services that support families of prisoners, Action for Prisoner's Families develops good practice guidelines, provides networking opportunities, training and conferences and attempts to influence the national policy debate by campaigning.

Since 1990, the organisation has been working to raise awareness of theimpact imprisonment has on children and families with the aim ofensuring all voluntary and statutory agencies respond to theirneeds.

The organisation provides support to those setting up services for thefamilies of prisoners, while grants are also available to new supportservices through the group's New Initiative Fund.
