The Children's Food Bill coalition believes the communications regulatoris hiding the results of the consultation, which initially ruled out aban on junk food advertising before the 9pm watershed. The regulatorrefused to answer a Freedom of Information Act request to find out howmany consultation responses called for restrictions before thewatershed.
According to campaign co-ordinator Richard Watts: "I can only concludethat Ofcom wants to keep this information secret so it can spin theresults in an announcement later in the year. It seems like it islooking for a good day to bury bad news."
He maintained that Ofcom mishandled the consultation "every step of theway".
He said: "It is time that the Government took this important decisionaway from Ofcom's fumbling hands and introduced legislation to protectchildren from junk food adverts before 9pm."
