Birmingham - 9.8% of live births weighed less than 2,500 grams in 2004 (7.6 per cent in England).

Coventry - 8.9% of live births weighed less than 2,500 grams in 2004 (7.6 per cent in England)

Sandwell - 10.5% of live births weighed less than 2,500 grams in 2004 (7.6 per cent in England)

Between 2003 and 2004, the live birth weight in Birmingham went down by 0.3 per cent, compared with an average fall of one per cent across England. In Coventry, the live birth weight also decreased by 0.9 per cent, while in Sandwell it increased by 0.5 per cent.
