The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Speech and Language Difficultiesbrings together more than 50 MPs and will be chaired by John Bercow, theConservative MP for Aylesbury South.
The group's vice chair is Kevin Barron, the Labour MP for Rother Valleyand chair of the Health Select Committee.
Set up by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, the groupwill also examine how children's communications problems can lead tosocial exclusion and offending. Around two-thirds of young offendershave a communication difficulty.
Jane Mackenzie, England policy officer for the college, said the groupwill lobby for the Home Office to screen offenders. She said that atwo-year study showed improving young people's language and listeningskills halved the number who reoffended.
