The first national quality standards for substance misuse services aimto provide a clear and consistent idea of what users and professionalsshould expect from services. They highlight the importance of sharinginformation with other agencies to protect children's interests, andtell agencies to consider children's needs, particularly before parentsleave services.
John Docherty, manager of NCH Scotland's Hype service, which works withyoung people with drug problems, said it was vital that specificstandards for young peoples' substance misuse services were alsodeveloped. "This would promote the development of child-friendlyservices and encourage a consistent approach to key issues such asconfidentiality for young people under 16," he said.
