Health News: Drug misuse - Focus on younger users a success

A greater focus on young people by drugs services has encouraged more under-15s to report drug problems, workers claim.

The latest figures from the Scottish Drug Misuse Data-base show the number of new patients under the age of 15 attending treatment services for drug use has risen from 84 in 2000/01 to 204 in 2003/04.

Mike McCarron, co-ordinator of the Greater Glasgow Drug Action Team, said more resources had been targeted at young people specifically.
