Health News: Scotland - Meal guidelines to address obesity

The Scottish Executive is to issue guidelines for meals served in nurseries in a bid to tackle childhood obesity.

According to its latest figures, one-third of 12-year-olds are overweight and one in five toddlers is overweight before their fourth birthday.

A spokeswoman from the Scottish Executive said the report would give "practical guidance for early years staff on developing meals and snacks".

The news came as Scotland's chief medical officer issued his 2003 annual report.
