The Nutritional Guidance for Early Years, designed for under-fives in nurseries, playgroups and family centres, will also provide information on dental health as the Executive looks to develop good habits early in children's lives. The news comes as Scotland's chief medical officer praised Hungry for Success for "continuing to raise standards for food provision in schools".
In his annual report for 2004, Dr Mac Armstrong also highlighted the need for early intervention to improve the health of children in deprived areas.
And he warned of the rise in the number of young people drinking, saying that reported drinking by 13-year-olds had doubled since 1990.
