The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS)also plans to develop a national service framework for professionals inhealth, education and social care who work with the province's 500children with complex health needs.
The framework will see the province's first attempt to introducestandards to benchmark health authorities' performance on the issue, andfollows children's national service frameworks in England and Wales,which launched three years ago.
Launching the results of the review that will form the basis of theframework, health minister Michael McGimpsey said: "Children who areborn with congenital problems or develop other problems as a result of aneurological condition or cancer or following an accident need access tothe best care. And where possible, those children should be cared for intheir own homes."
