A Government-commissioned review of child and adolescent mental healthservices due out later this month will recommend the country follows thejoined-up model used in England. This model ties frontline staff, suchas health visitors and school nurses, into the service by defining themas one of the four tiers that make up child and adolescent mental healthservices.
Moira Davren, a nursing adviser to the province's health department whoconvened the independent three-year review, said frontline professionalsoften had the expertise but not the confidence to give troubled childrensupport. A tiered approach could help staff recognise their skills,enabling them to support children and cut waiting lists, she added.
