More than a third of dentists in Northern Ireland want to get involved in children's health through dental screening programmes in schools, a survey has found.
The survey of high street dentists in Northern Ireland found almost 40 per cent wanted to become involved in the programmes, which are usually undertaken by community or salaried dentists.
Claudette Christie, director of the British Dental Association Northern Ireland, said children were more likely to approach their high street dentist if they had already made contact with them at school.
Christie blamed deprivation for the country having the highest levels of decay in Europe.
