The service run by charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (Calm) hastaken more than 33,000 calls from young men in distress since it startednine years ago.
But after failed bids for money from the Lottery, Department of Healthand community grants, the helpline has been shut down.
Jane Powell, the charity's national co-ordinator, said: "We were toldthat the age range of 15 to 35 was too wide for the Young People'sFund."
But Powell said the service was one of the few in the UK aimedspecifically at young men and had been very successful.
She said: "This is a very hard-to-reach group. Young men who aresuicidal or self-harm tend not to use helplines and our social marketingcampaigns had worked in encouraging them to use the service. We willcontinue to fundraise and will relaunch it as soon as we can."
