The amendment to the Mental Health Bill would force health authoritiesto assess the needs of under-18s if they're referred to an adult ward.If the proposals become law, health professionals would have to findappropriate care for young people.
Kathryn Pugh, project manager at YoungMinds, said: "This is reallyexciting.
Young people, who are sometimes also detained inappropriately onpaediatric wards, are entitled to have their needs met. Care must bepurchased accordingly."
Campaigners also hope that the Bill will be changed in order to make thewelfare of children paramount.
