Health News: Healthy eating - Youth club group tightens measures

Youth clubs in Nottinghamshire will follow schools' example on healthy eating with the introduction of stricter rules on food this summer.

Unlike schools, youth clubs will not have to ensure the foods they sellare healthy. But Peter Morrell, manager of the under-14s section atNottinghamshire County Council's young people's division, said the 30clubs he managed, many of which were based at schools, were to followsuit.

Traditionally youth clubs relied on revenue from tuck shops to boosttheir income.

Morrell said instead young people would pay a minimal charge if theywanted to eat, which would enable them to benefit from healthy snacksand healthy eating activities.
