The conception rate in this unitary authority has risen by 1.5 per centsince data for the teenage pregnancy strategy was first collected in1998. The rate has fluctuated since 1998, dropping to its lowest rate of37.2 conceptions per 1,000 girls in 2001, while it peaked at 51.3conceptions per 1,000 girls in 2003. The percentage of under-18conceptions resulting in abortions was 38.9 per cent in 2004.
