48.1 conceptions per 1,000 girls aged 15-17 in 2002 (42.6 in England)

7.7% births under 2,500 grams in 2002 (8.1 per cent in England)

Wendy Brownbridge, nurse consultant in public health at North Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust, said: "Increasing breast-feeding rates locally is very challenging. In many communities formula feeding is the norm and there is often very little community knowledge to support women who wish to breast-feed their infants. The Northern Lincolnshire and Goole with Howden Strategic Breast-feeding Group aims to bring together partners to develop strategy."
