54.6 conceptions per 1,000 girls aged 15 to 17 in 1998 (46.6 in England)

- 71.8 conceptions per 1,000 girls aged 15 to 17 in 2004 (41.5 inEngland)

- 8.1% of live births weighed less than 2,500 grams in 2002 (7.7 percent in England)

- 4.5 infant deaths under one week per 1,000 women in 2002 (5.2 inEngland)

Statistics published this week show the rate of conceptions in Barkingand Dagenham has shot up by 31.5 per cent since figures on the teenagepregnancy strategy were first collected in 1998. The key shift camebetween 2001 and 2002, when figures rose from 64 to 73 conceptions per1,000 girls.
