66.1 conceptions per thousand girls aged 15 to 17 in 2003 (42.1 in England)

37.3 per cent of conceptions per thousand girls aged 15 to 17 leading to abortions (46 in England)

2.87 average number of decayed, missing or filled teeth per five-year-old in 2002 (1.47 in England)

8.6% of live births weighed less than 2,500 grams in 2002 (7.7 per cent in England)

Targets set by the Teenage Pregnancy Unit aim to cut the teenage pregnancy rate by 15 per cent to 52.1 conceptions per thousand by 2006. Analysis shows that the under 18-conception rate in Manchester has already fallen from 81.4 in 1992/1994, to 65.9 in 2000/2002, a fall of around 19 per cent.
