The conception rate in the unitary authority of Luton has risen by 3.8per cent since figures for the teenage pregnancy strategy were firstcollected in 1998. The rate fell to 39.7 conceptions per 1,000 girls in2003 before rising back to its current rate. Initiatives have includedoffering a one-term secondment for a teacher from a local school intothe sexual health promotion trainer team to share experience andlearning, and a rise in the number of schools the team works with.
