10.4 conceptions per 1,000 girls aged 13 to 15 in 2001 (7.9 in England)

7.75 infant deaths per 1,000 live births between 1997 and 2001 (5.6 in England)

0.93 Average number of decayed, missing or filled teeth in under-fives in 2001/2 (1.47 in England)

Stuart Boulton, director of Dental Public Health for Coventry PCT, said: "The average level of dental disease for under-fives in Coventry meets the national target for 2002. The average figure, however, does belie the contrast between socially advantaged and disadvantaged areas within the city. The majority of children have no dental disease but there are unfortunately some children with a high level of decayed untreated teeth."
