Since figures on the teenage pregnancy strategy were first collected in1998, the conception rate in Bristol has fallen by 8.4 per cent. This isbelow the average fall in England of 11.1 per cent, but the current rateis the lowest since 1998. The number of young people getting pregnanthas been, for the most part, declining since 1999. Since 1999's figureof 355, the number has slid down to 314. However, there was a surge ofpregnancies in 2003 when 362 young people got pregnant.
