Health News: GP Commissioning - DoH to explore the impact onservices

Work is under way at the Department of Health to explore the implications of GP commissioning on children's and maternity services, Children Now has learned.

GP commissioners, either as individual practices or in groups, muststart to commission local services by the end of the year. However,children's services have yet to receive a steer as to how it should fitwith these arrangements.

Under the plans, the relationship of GP commissioning with children'strusts and children's centres will be investigated.

David Hawker, director of children's services at Brighton & Hove CityCouncil, said clarity was needed on how GP commissioning would work in apooled budget situation, how case management information should bepassed from GPs to other professionals, and what the "chain of command"should be.
