Children's leads have complained that professional executive committees, which are GP-led bodies within primary care trusts, are oftenindifferent to the children's national service framework and thechildren's agenda.
But last week, the Government announced plans to change the structure ofthe committees.
Committee members will be given specific roles, key lead areas, and willbe made accountable for their decisions, as well as linking into theirtrust's broader strategy.
Members will also be paired with executive directors, so clinicians andmanagers are making commissioning decisions jointly.
Jo Webber, deputy policy director at the NHS Confederation, saidawareness of the children's agenda would be increased through jointworking with board-level children's leads and GP commissioning leads.
