Health News: Childhood allergies - Study contradicts advice on solids

Expert advice to delay introduction of solid foods in infants to reduce the risk of allergies may be flawed, according to research.

In a study of more than 640 children monitored until the age of five-and-a-half years, late introduction of solid foods did not protect against wheezing, allergic reactions or eczema, said the report in Archives of Disease in Childhood.

Current guidance suggests that avoiding potential allergens in early life will reduce the risk of sensitisation to foods and airborne allergens associated with asthma and allergies.
