The causes of asthma remain unclear, but you are more likely to develop the condition if you have a family history of asthma, eczema or allergies. Certain environmental factors such as pollution may also play a part, and children whose parents smoke are more likely to develop the condition.

It's hard to say exactly how many teenagers have asthma, but there are 1.1 million children and young people under 15 in the UK with the condition - about three in every classroom.
