Hale and Hearty Derbyshire children learn about healthy lifestyles

Nine-year-olds Georgia Vickers and Charlotte Bingham-Wakeman, of Bakewell Methodist Junior School in Derbyshire, learned about being healthy at a two-day event run by Derbyshire County Council.

More than 1,000 primary school pupils from across the county took partin workshops, events and activities covering healthy eating, exercise,the food chain and using locally produced ingredients.

Pupils also enjoyed a treasure hunt with a healthy lifestyle theme andcompeted for the top prize of a mountain bike. Alan Charles, DerbyshireCounty Council cabinet member for schools, said: "This gives ourcatering staff the chance to work face-to-face with pupils and staff tohelp promote healthy choices and demonstrate the wide variety of foodsand activities that can help lead to better and happier lifestyles."
