Guidance offered on incontinence

Health
The Department of Health has issued guidelines on patient pathways for children and young people experiencing problems with continence.

The guidance is part of a series offering guidance on patient journeys under the national service framework for children, young people and maternity services.

It shows a series of stages in identifying issues surrounding continence, such as a child wetting themselves at school, and outlines how co-ordination between health, social care and education services can be used to meet children's needs.

Young people need to be active partners in decisions about their medication, the guidance states.

The guidance's publication coincides with the launch of a new campaign from the Children's Liver Disease Foundation, urging parents and carers to be aware of the signs of liver diseases when changing babies' nappies.
