Strong progress on child health

Health
Financial pressures on the NHS have not stopped progress on improving health services for children, a Department of Health review has found.

The review by Sheila Shribman, the national clinical director for children, young people and maternity services, found steady progress on implementing the children's national service framework. She highlighted improvements in mental health services and care for newborn babies as particular successes.

But Shribman also found some parts of the NHS still regard children's services as a low priority and warned there is "no room for complacency".

Shribman told CYP Now: "There is a tendancy to concentrate on adult diseases and that's always been an issue. I'm hugely supportive of the efforts made so far but there is a long way to go. We do need more integration across service boundaries."
