According to Barrow Cadbury, 57 per cent of ex-offenders have had difficulty finding a job because of their criminal record and 61 per cent of prisoners re-offend within two years.
Mike Thomas, head of the Association of Youth Offending Team Managers, said: "One of the main protective factors, as far as offending is concerned, is employment. Anything that will enable young people who have committed offences to gain employment is very welcome."
