Young offenders risk returning to crime as the credit crunch obliterates jobs, youth offending team (YOT) managers have warned.

Paul O'Hara, manager of Bradford YOT, said he was concerned that the economic downturn was putting young offenders at risk. Getting young people into employment is seen as a key measure in preventing reoffending and is a strong focus of the Youth Crime Action Plan.

He added colleagues in other areas were expecting the same problem and that it was a major concern.
