The Transition to Adulthood (T2A) project, aimed at 16- to 22-year-olds in Birmingham, London and Worcestershire, will provide participants with mentors dedicated to helping them avoid re-offending. Young people will receive tailored support on issues including employment, relationships and substance misuse.
Project workers will also link young people with relevant local voluntary and community organisations to access further support. A spokeswoman for the Barrow Cadbury Trust said: "T2A teams will be similar to probation and youth offending team workers but will bridge the gap between the two services and offer young people personalised mentoring."
Young people involved in the projects will be able to access support from T2A workers for up to three years. The pilots in Worcestershire and Birmingham are due to start within the next month. The London pilot will be up and running by January 2009.
