Resettlement support aims to smooth offenders' transition from secure estate

Three pilot schemes to aid resettlement of young people coming out of custody are to launch, the Youth Justice Board (YJB) has confirmed.

Under the pilots, youth offending teams (YOTs) will link up with localauthorities and the secure estate to make sure each young offender has aresettlement plan.

This will include housing provision, education, training and healthneeds.

The trial schemes will be run by the YJB in the South West and the NorthWest, and by the London Criminal Justice Board in London.

It is unclear when the pilots in the South West and North West willbegin, although the London project is due to get under way inSeptember.

A spokeswoman for the YJB said the trials come as a result of proposalsoutlined in the Youth Crime Action Plan, published in July lastyear.
