GSCC Update: Specialising helps the team

The latest on registration and conduct from the General Social Care Council.

Jenny Robson is a senior social worker in a duty and assessment team at West Sussex County Council. She was an assistant social worker at the authority before qualifying in June 2007.

How have you found fitting post-registration training and learning (PRTL) around your job?

It's been extremely easy for me so far because West Sussex supports and pays for us to do the post-qualifying award. During the first two parts consideration was given to my caseload and in the final part, where you have a student to supervise, I had a reduced caseload. West Sussex's training is excellent. I've been on lots of different courses including one about using play in assessing children and three courses run by two independent social workers, covering working with non-offending partners of sex offenders, working with children who have been sexually abused, and how to protect vulnerable children from online abuse.
