Anyone over the age of 21 with a creative idea for a project lasting no more than six months can apply in the final phase of the Reading Families Millennium Award Scheme.
This has already funded more than 230 projects, helping families and communities benefit from reading together more. It is co-ordinated by the Campaign for Learning, with support from the Millennium Commission.
Reading in this context is taken in its widest form, with projects ranging from books to drama, art and the internet.
A project already up and running thanks to Reading Families Millennium Award money is called Spice Kids. This London project involves children and parents reading books in a group, then doing cooking-based activities.
